    CARMEN'S HERITAGE

The Song: "Gypsy" by Fleetwood Mac! A song about freedom, love and fear, being true to yourself and grabbing opportunities with both hands before it's gone.

The Name: "Carmen" - After the dramatic opera of the same name. It's set in southern Spain and tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a soldier who is seduced by the wiles of a fiery gypsy

The Design: We began to rework this exceptional beauty from a soft black denim vest, and Carmen began to take shape beautifully from the very beginning.

Designed and handcrafted specifically for this unique piece, the strikingly dramatic Spanish inspired sleeves are composed of layer upon layer of light ruffles which makes it comfortable to wear. They are the true focal point of Carmen; semi-transparent to alluringly display the arms underneath, they fall delicately to the knuckles, creating an imposing but softly feminine aspect to the garment.

Bold, red sumptuous satin lining is secured inside the bodice, continuing to the upright collar, which stands proudly like Carmen herself, exposing a fiery flash of red.

The gem encrusted, flowery diamante shoulder applique was selected to complement the black and red theme, creating a spectacularly stark contrast of colours in true Spanish style. The red flowers were selected for this creation as they symbolise the carnation, which in Spain is associated with a symbol of affection between lovers.

A thick, ornate black and gold trim circles the bottom of the design reminiscent of "alamares", or the ornaments used on a Matadors Chaquetilla, tying the whole garment together to create a vibrant eye catching statement piece.
